The Cosy Cat Cottage

What to do in Toowoomba

With our local knowledge and love of our beautiful city, we take great pride and delight in helping you experience it. Whether you’re here for a few days or a few weeks, these are some of our favourite places…

Making the most of your trip away

Our favourite place for great coffee

Pump Café (1km from the cottage)

We know that when travelling, finding a really good cup of coffee is as important as a good meal! To get your caffeine fix we recommend taking the short stroll to Pump Café. They also serve up warm and hearty breakfasts, with vegetarian and gluten free options available.

Our favourite place for tasty treats

The Bakers Duck (1.5 km from the cottage)

You’re on holidays, which means it’s the perfect excuse to indulge! Bakers Duck Bakery is only a short drive from the cottage and has some of the tastiest danish pastries, croissants and real-meat sausage rolls in town, all made with high quality organic and locally sourced ingredients.

Our favourite place for pizza with your pooch

The Finch (4.1km from the cottage)

Fancy a pizza and don’t want to leave your pooch at the cottage? Outdoor seating at The Finch offers a sunny spot for dogs and their humans, so don’t hesitate to grab the leash and bring your bud when you venture out for a pizza at The Finch.

Our favourite place for a country pub meal

The Bull & Barley Inn (20km from the cottage)

If you don’t mind jumping in the car, the Bull & Barley Inn is well worth the drive to experience good old fashioned hospitality and a country style pub meal. The pub has been restored to its former grandeur and features interesting historic photographs and open veranda to enjoy the spectacular views across the Darling Downs.

Our favourite place for a night out

Fitzy’s on Church (1.6km from the cottage)

Our favourite place for a tipple or two has to be Fitzy’s on Church. Set on the main street of Toowoomba, Fitzy’s is a local favourite amongst the younger crowd and is known for its live music, casual atmosphere and thirst-quenching range of beers and drinks.

Our favourite dog-friendly bar

Bar Wunder (1.3km from the cottage)

You and your four-legged friend can enjoy an afternoon of barks and brews at Bar Wunder with their cosy eclectic atmosphere. Their cheese platters are inexpensive and you can treat your pooch to a “pupcake” while you enjoy (another) signature cocktail!

Our favourite place to take your pooch for a walk

Queens Park (2.5km from the cottage)

The State Heritage listed Queens Park and Botanic Gardens is an absolute must for any visitor to the Garden City. Set across more than 25 picturesque hectares right in the middle of Toowoomba City the park is located 2.5km from the cottage. There is also an off leash area in the park, perfect for playtime with your pup!

Our favourite place for a picnic

Japanese Gardens (5.7km from the cottage)

While located on the other side of Toowoomba, the Japanese Gardens is our favourite place for a relaxing picnic! Behind the grandeur of the red ornate gates are a host of traditional Japanese-style aesthetics including bridges, waterfalls, cherry blossom trees, bonsai and bamboo avenues. Ask us about using one of our picnic baskets made available for you to pack your own drinks and snacks!

Our favourite place to soak up history

Mort Estate Historic Walk (The Cosy Cat Cottage is part of the walk!)

Why not grab a coffee and enjoy the easy and self-guided walk around the historic Mort Estate. Start off at The Cosy Cat Cottage and then wind your way through some of the area’s historical buildings and streetscapes. Complete the walk with a stroll around the railway station which was opened in 1874 before heading back to the cottage for a much needed rest (and glass of wine).
